OUR STORY

Located to the western part of the Chianti appellation, Buontalenti’s wine are the pure expression of the Tuscany wine growing tradition. Alberto Antonini for over twenty years has been overseeing and consulting in the vineyards of few selected growers with whom he has developed a long term relationship. These vineyards are mainly located in the western part of the Chianti appellation.

The whole range of Buontalenti wines is made with traditional Chianti grapes like Sangiovese, Colorino and Canaiolo in a modern classic style focussed on pure, juicy fruit driven and drinkable Chianti’s. The project is named Buontalenti after the eclectic 16th century Florentine architect.

Villa

Going back in time and seeking out the origins of Chianti docg, we find that the development of viticulture in Tuscany grew exponentially with the advent of the Medici family, an ancient florentine family. There is a close link between the Medicean dynasty and oenological science or, more simply, the wine. Bernardo Buontalenti with his long activity at the court of Cosimo I De’Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, is considered one of the most influential artist of the tuscan Renaissance, and commissioned by Cosimo de’Medici he designes few of the Villa Medicea, like the one selected for our Label’s.

In Tuscany there are 13 Villa Medicea, all of them were declared Patrimony of Humanity by Unesco in 2013. The Villas were all located in the countryside where the cultivation of grapes was already very active.

PHILOSOPHY

Buontalenti’s project help many farmers in the area that weren’t able to develop their own brand – a more stable and solid future has generated great enthusiasm among farmers who until then could only sell grapes to large cooperative wineries.

BUONTALENTI GOES ORGANIC

Stimulated by Alberto’s knowledge and respectful approch to the tradition, many of the farmers are embracing the organic approch to vineyard management, with the results of a considerable quantity of organic certified grapes to be allocated for our Buontalenti organic project.
